An iron-based alloy with a chromium content of more than 10.5% is called stainless steel. Stainless steel is short for stainless steel and acid-resistant steel. Usually in the atmosphere, water steam and fresh water and other corrosive medium stainless steel and corrosion resistance is called stainless steel; Steel that is resistant to corrosion in strong corrosive environments such as acid, alkali and salt is called acid-resistant steel. The two types of steel have different corrosion resistance due to the difference in composition. The former has low alloying degree and is generally not acid resistant. The latter has a high degree of alloying, both acid resistance and rust resistance.

Second, stainless steel characteristics

The most basic characteristic of stainless steel is its rust resistance under atmospheric conditions and corrosion resistance in various liquid media. This characteristic is directly related to the chromium content in the steel, the presence of chromium creates an invisible film on the surface of the steel, which prevents oxidation and makes the material "passivated" or resistant to corrosion. The addition of other elements such as nickel or molybdenum can improve corrosion resistance, strength and temperature resistance.

The corrosion resistance is enhanced with the increase of chromium content. When the chromium content reaches more than 10.5%, this characteristic of the steel mutates, from easy to rust to rust, from corrosion resistance to corrosion resistance. Moreover, with the chromium content increasing from 10.5% to 10.5%, its rust resistance and corrosion resistance are also continuously improved. Generally, the maximum chromium content of stainless steel is 26%, and higher chromium content is no longer necessary.
